Corporate Tax at a Glance
The UAE taxes business profits, not revenue. Most companies pay nothing on their first AED 375,000 of taxable income.
Taxable income up to AED 375,000
Taxable income above AED 375,000
Qualifying income of a Qualifying Free Zone Person
Taxable income is based on your accounting profit, adjusted for items the law treats differently, such as non-deductible expenses and exempt income. That is why accurate bookkeeping is the foundation of a correct return.
Who Must Register
Registration is not automatic. Most businesses must apply, including:
- Mainland companies and other UAE legal entities
- Free Zone companies, even if they expect to pay 0%
- Individuals running a business with turnover above AED 1 million a year
- Some foreign businesses with a presence or income in the UAE
New companies must register within the FTA's deadline after their license is issued, and late registration leads to a penalty. If you are already registered for VAT, you can register for Corporate Tax from the same EmaraTax account.

Small Business Relief
An eligible UAE business with revenue of AED 3 million or less can choose to be treated as having no taxable income. It is claimed in the return each year and currently applies to tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2026. It cannot be combined with Qualifying Free Zone status.
